Wale Folarin Mixtape - “Back to the Future”

Posted on 21 August 2009 by BPIZZY

Finally got around to listening to the most recent Wale Mixtape,  “Back to the Future”.   It is a collabo with 9th Wonder and Nick Cathdubs.   The tape has been out for a few months.  What can I say, we’re lazy.  Still, I needed a Wale fix.  His debut album “Attention: Deficit” seems to keep getting pushed back.  It has a firm release date of “Summer 09″.   Well, the summer is almost over and we are ready for DC’s finest to drop that shit.

This mixtape should hold you over until the official LP drops.  It is good for a few spins.  There is a remix of Chillin’ on there and a ton of cameos.  It doesn’t hold up to a few of his earlier mixtapes like the Mixtape About Nothing, but Wale set the bar high for himself.

Tracklist and download after the jump…

Trey Songz - Anticipation mixtape

Posted on 30 June 2009 by thomasm

Artists are starting to release more mixtapes without DJs on it, which makes listening to the songs much more enjoyable.  Trey Songz released this through his blog seefutherthaniam.com last night a little after midnight.  I took a quick listen and there are some solid jams, but I’ll update this post with a better review tomorrow.  I figured it was more important to get the tape in the people’s hands ASAP.  Below is the jam “On Top” and a link to his blog so you can download the entire mixtape yourself.

BOB vs. Bobby Ray Mixtape

Posted on 27 June 2009 by thomasm

Most people know B.o.B from his smash “Autotune” but not too many people are familiar with his crooning alterego Bobby Ray. He shares both the rap and the singing side of himself on this enjoyable unique mixtape. The first song from b.o.b. is “Patron and Swag” which laments the fact that real rap doesn’t sell but if you throw the words “patron” or “swag” on it you have a hit. That song was recorded live so it doesn’t have the sound quality of the rest of the tape, but was my favorite track because of the lyrics. Asher Roth and Charles Hamilton join B.o.B on “Change Gon Come” for my other selection from the B.o.B side of the tape. This song has been out but it’s pretty dope nontheless.  It’s easy to draw comparisons to Andre 3000 because of the similarities in music styling and the ATL background but B.o.B has his own style. The songs that he samples aren’t something we’ve heard 3000 on.

You can hear the Bobby Ray side on “Trippin” which sounds like nothing I’m used to.   I prefer the B.o.B. side but there is a large market of people that will like the Bobby Ray side of the tape. Listen to the tracks below and download the mixtape if you like what you hear:

Trey Songz - Swagger Like Songz Vol. 2 Mixtape

Posted on 25 June 2009 by thomasm

The best R&B artist out right now has a collection of his most recent songs put on a tape that is sure to get your woman in that mood. “Invented Sex” is one of the songs that could make the cut for his CD august 4th. My favorites are the remixes of popular songs on the radio. With tracks like “Girlfriend can come too” (set to Pleasure P’s “Boyfriend #2″), First Date Sex (Jeremih’s “Birthday Sex”) and a remix of Beyonce’s “Ego” that you won’t soon forget, this tape is one to keep on the iPod for awhile. The song getting the most response is his version of Jay-z’s “D.O.A. (death of autotune)” called “Death of Kells Autotune” where he tells R Kelly to put the damn autotune down. Trey said he released the track because he is a huge fan of the old R Kelly (like everyone else) and wants more of the R&B ballads. I second that. The links for a couple of the tracks are below, but I highly recommend just downloading the entire mixtape:

50 Cent - War Angel LP

Posted on 24 June 2009 by thomasm

For all the 50 fans out there, you should enjoy this mixtape. The tracks all have that grimey 50 cent America fell in love with all those years ago. “I Line Niggas” “Redrum (murder)” and “Get the message” are probably the best tracks. The novelty of 50 has fallen off for me so I listened a couple times and archived it. If you like what you hear below, feel free to download the mixtape from the link:
